morangueiro, no sentido amplo e restrito.

ABSTRACT - Strawberry is a temperate fruit included in a small fruits group, and is the main economically crop from this group in Brazil and the world. Fruit size is a very important characteristic, because it influences on the product price, and it is between the characters that breeding programs want to improve. This study aimed to estimate the inheritability, in broad and narrow sense, of strawberry fruit size (longitudinal and transversal diameter). To achieve the goals, it was used F1 progenies from 12 crosses, and his parents, the cultivars Albion, Aromas, Benícia, Camarosa, Dover and San Andreas. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with five
replications, and six plants each experimental unit. Plants were growed in conventional system. Fruit size was measured in first half of December, 2016, for all treatments, and it was evaluated samples of three to five fruits by plant. The fruits longitudinal and transversal diameter were sized by a digital caliper, and the results
were expressed in millimeters. Inheritabilities were estimated in broad sense (H2) and narrow sense (h2). The results showed high variability associated to longitudinal and transversal diameter, within the progenies and between the parents. It was observed transgressive segregation for the two characters studied. The H2 estimated values ranged from middle to high for the longitudinal and transversal diameter (0.74 and 0.83, respectively); and h2 estimates revealed middle values (0.45 for longitudinal diameter and 0.55 for the transversal diameter). Based on the results obtained, there are additive and non-additive gene effects in inheritance of strawberries fruit longitudinal and transversal diameter for the studied genotype set. ABSTRACT:
Stem rot and aggregated sheath spot are the two major stem and sheath diseases affecting rice (Oryza sativa L.) in temperate areas. A third fungal disease, sheath blight, is a major disease in tropical areas. Resistance to these diseases is a key objective in rice breeding programs but phenotyping is challenged by the confounding effects of phenological and morphological traits such as flowering time (FT) and plant height (PH). This study sought to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) for resistance to these three diseases after removing the confounding effects of FT and PH. Two populations of advanced breeding germplasm, one with 316 tropical japonica and the other with 325 indica genotypes, were evaluated in field and greenhouse trials for resistance to the diseases. Phenotypic means for field and greenhouse disease resistance, adjusted by FT and PH, were analyzed for associations with 29,000 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in tropical japonica and 50,000 SNPs in indica. A total of 29 QTL were found for resistance that were not associated with FT or PH. Multilocus models with selected resistance-associated SNPs were fitted for each disease to estimate their effects on the other diseases. A QTL on chromosome 9 accounted for more than 15% of the phenotypic variance for the three diseases. When resistance-associated SNPs at this locus from both the tropical japonica and indica populations were incorporated into the model, resistance was improved for all three diseases with little impact on FT and PH.
